Got a call from a company I worked for at one time. Worked there for five years. Got good reviews and annual bonuses. When I quit, I got my bonus. Waited to make sure the check had been deposited. My boss told me to “Get my God damn ass off company property. Got a call recently from somebody in their recruiting department. I asked if he knew I had worked for them before and he said no. Told what had happened. He still tried talking me into an interview.
I made the decision to stand up for myself and defend my time carefully. If a recruiter randomly reaches out to me about a job unsolicited (particularly if it’s from a recruitment agency), they have to pay me for my time. How, you may ask? I set up a Calendly account with my availability and connected my Stripe account to it. I set up my calendar invites with a mandatory credit card field and send them MY Calendly link whenever they want to chat. If they really want to talk to me, they’ll pay the toll. If I like what they have to offer and I get the job, then they’ll get their money back. Note: Calendly charges $8/mo or something to add a credit card field to your invites, but I already use it for freelancing, so it doesn’t bother me. Start defending your time, people. It truly is…
The current way a lot of us go through life is bull crap. We work at least 75% of it if we are lucky. Then when you are finally able to retire you are put in a nursing home. Or you have family members taking care of you because you've gotten old. That leaves the rest of your 25% life to just sit around or play golf until you die off. A lot of us when asked what was the best time of our lives would probably say their childhood. Given that wasn't crap either. We weren't asked to be brought into this world and how is it “lucky” to then have to work most of your life? Just to be able to get housing and food because without land it's very hard to get that yourself if not impossible.
Reply all: “No thanks”
Sorry if this is a rant but I'm frustrated. I'm a seamstress at a small business. When I got hired I was told I would make 15 dollars an hour. Well my checks say I only make 13.00. When I confronted my boss today, I told him I'm discouraged making only $1 above minimum wage and he told me to blame the government for raising it. That's it's not his fault. He said if I want more money I can come in early and skip my lunch. I'm putting in applications tomorrow.
