Just wanted to share bits of my story with you, a bit of a rant if you will 🙂 I'm 25 y/o, graduated with a Master's last year, doing an internship since Sept. I've been doing them since my first year of Master's (this is technically the second year I've been working). 1st & 2nd internships were not paid, as they were “”part of my university curriculum”” (this is very average in my country). 3rd internship was 800€ a month, had to take 1h train as the city where it was is incredibly expensive and wouldn't allow me to.. well, survive with that amount of money. They told me they would've hired me at the end – of course they didn't, telling me there wasn't enough money to even extend my internship, just to hire another intern right after my contract ended. 4th internship is the current one. I'm paid…
Well it’s not wrong
On Call gets paid in vacation
Is it normal for hourly wage workers who are required to work on call and the next shift to get extra vacation hours instead of pay. I see this with salary but not with people making $15/hr. What happens if you part ways do you get that paid out?
“Let’s make that stock go DOWN”
Issues at work
I'm currently working as a courtesy clerk at a grocery store, we have both Male and Female clerks but Female clerks only do one part of the job compared to the males one of these things are to collect shopping carts, only Males can collect shopping carts and only under “extreme” circumstances can females do the same I've brought up the issue with other coworkers and I've been told that it “looks bad” if they do it.. what I don't understand is why are they being paid the same as us and get the same hours as us when they don't fulfill the same tasks that we do? Isn't that gender discrimination? What happened to gender equality? These girls will sit inside the store and do nothing if they're are no customers all they do is bag groceries.
I have been here 5 years, she has been here less than 6 months. She doesn't understand VERY basic ideas and I have to fix them for her all. the. time. She is objectively not good at her job. I came in every day during the panini, I am the most reliable employee in the front office. If I were to quit, they would be fucked. Unfortunately, I need the paycheck. We are a very small company, family-owned. They recently removed my qualifications to look at payroll information on my QB's, so when my “supervisor” left this afternoon, I checked on her computer. There it was, $2/hour more. What do I do? Was what I did illegal? Her computer was just left open. What do I say to my boss?
So this weekend I'm working with a another coworker and no manager or supervisor, my manager went over everything with me but told me they are giving her the key to the building. I was shocked I've been there 3yrs compared to her 1year. And I trained her a year ago. I've gotten 2 pay raises this year so I'm a good worker. The only reason I think she got the key instead of me is because I'm a young black man and she is a young white woman. Just sucks.
TCGPlayer warehouse workers attempting to unionize. Hey anti-workers! It would mean a lot if any of you would be willing to show some support for those over at tcg trying to unionize. Especially if you’re a high volume seller, your input could materially influence our likelihood of success. Here is a link to the petition. TCG has already responded saying that they will not accept the petition and will require a full vote, and have made a commitment to spread anti union propaganda under the guise of “informing” peeps. Love and solidarity!
Minimum wage and disability
Did you guys know that if you become disabled For non-blind individuals, the monthly SGA amount for 2023 is $1470. So basically if you don’t earn more than $1470 then you don’t earn too much to qualify for disability. And 40 hours a week at minimum wage times 52 weeks divided by 12 is only $1,256.67? My disability check is more than full-time minimum wage. How is it possible that someone can work full-time at minimum wage but if they had a medical condition they wouldn’t even be earning enough to disqualify them from disability?
