wow, just no
I don’t mind handling tech support calls regarding our software and software related issues since I know the software inside and out… But 99% of our tech support calls are hardware related – need new printers, need new kiosks, need to replace a screw on a machine… etc etc… I literally don’t know how to help these people cause I don’t work in those departments and don’t have the knowledge to assist… I’m happy with my job and get paid really well but I feel overwhelmed cause as someone with social anxiety, this is too much human interaction for me. And some customers are just really mean… today I started getting phone calls since 6am and I don’t start until 10am. Lol… Of course, my baby boomer boss thinks I should be more of a team player but I told him that I already am by doing my job so…
The rather large company I work for is notoriously cheap. I know. Pick yourself up off the floor. That probably shook you to your core to learn something like that. Anyway, they rarely hand out raises apart from cost of living. As a company, they are behind their competitors in wage despite their claims that the survey company they pay have told them they are competitive. I'm planning to leave but rather than simply getting an offer and then giving notice and seeing if they counter which they often do for someone like myself in a higher position, I wanted to go to them and ask for a wage matching the offer withthout disclosing I have it to see how they react. I'm betting they scoff at the mere mention of a raise. “Not this year bub, inflation blah blah blah”. “Cool, glad to know how you feel about me.…
Firing and rehiring should be illegal
My company suddenly announced that all of us are “transitioning” to new positions and new contracts. We were given the following message: Business conditions periodically require [corporation] to change business strategies and change the overall direction of certain service offerings. As part of this, [corporation] evaluated the job and job duties of the [my position] and decided that the position does not fit in [corporation’s] immediate business strategy. You will be automatically moved into a new role starting January 1. You will now be acting as a [same position but slightly reworded]. Whenever [corporation] creates a new position, it evaluates the expected job duties of the position. Based on our evaluation, we concluded the [new position] is non-exempt under the federal Fair Labor Standards Act and applicable state laws. Basically, I’m being moved from salaried to hourly. My position requires extensive travel, and 2 hours of that travel is now…
Can we stop normalising crap pay?
I get this subreddit is for something along these lines. When will the power of the people overcome the powers and influential figures with the money in this life? Why is that that working people are bad for going on strike? To say that Unions and such things are ruining work for the working class people? Now more than ever, the greed has become so much so that, low pay must be challenged. I don't believe in working for minimum wage. That ain't giving anyone any quality of life, only the purpose of working just to live, struggle on by. For those places out there paying minimum wage, it is their way of saying, we'd pay you less if we could!
Hey guys, first time posting here so I hope this is the right place for this. My wife had some tests done recently and a bunch of red flags came back. It could be very serious is what she tells me. Threw around the cancer word a few times so we are both stressed of course. They want to call her Friday to go over the results but her boss basically told her no I’m a less than polite way, but shouldn’t this serious health concern be more important? I can kinda see the bosses perspective because they have others taking off that day, but what would you guys do in that scenario? My wife plans on calling in sick the day before anyway because we can’t wait on that kind of info, but is that the right move? My gut says health over job is a must, but she…
Degrading boss
Just wanted to get this off my chest. I joined a company and soon find out the position I filled has a lot of turnover. There is a just a ton of information and a ton of applications you have to learn and keep up with. On top of all that the boss is under a lot of pressure and needs extra help. I’m really trying my best to learn but my boss just gets pissed if I ask him stuff twice or don’t learn something fast enough. Shouldn’t he realize maybe the reason there is high turnover is because this position just sucks and be thankful I’m giving it a try? If he is more patient it would be better for him to have some one properly trained no? I’m seriously thinking about leaving because I don’t wanna be degraded for not knowing something it’s gonna take me years…
