How’s everyone doing? Rates are high and layoffs are even higher. Everyone hanging in there?
I've seen so many people throw the “if you didn't get a 10% cost of living increase this year, you actually took a pay CUT” phrase put there in this, and other, subs during discussions. Where did this figure come from? It's not even close to accurate for my situation, several friends I've discussed situations with, and many of you that I've seen post actual numbers in threads. For example, a year ago, I was paying $1450 a month for my 2/2.5 townhome in Orlando, FL. My landlord just raised us to $1700 for our lease extension. It's the second raise in less than 6 months. Our last lease ended about 5 months ago, we extended for 5 months at $1600/mo. We decided to sign another 1 year lease, and he raised us to $1700/mo. AND – he told us his business partners wanted to raise to 1800, but “he…
Malicious Compliance
I'm a supervisor for a large, Seattle based fast-food corporation/legal drug dealer that poses as a cafe. Since I started, I've felt the tasks to be completed were far too many for the man-hours scheduled. I'm not sure if this is corporate ignorance of what's actually possible on the ground or a deliberate attempt to make us work harder by giving us unrealistic goals. To put it in perspective, 3 people normally close the restaurant each night. When I was trained by my manager, there were two others and us (so 4 total people). My manager gets on us if we stay past our scheduled time and yet when we had 4 people doing the closing tasks (one of whom is the manager), we still blew past our time by 15 minutes. Like I said, unrealistic expectations. So yesterday I closed with two others and we were busy. I had…
I finally got a union job
But it’s still only 15 an hour. My last job was non-union but I was making 21 an hour. I know that I’ll be happier working at this new place and I’m super happy that it’s unionized, but still can’t help but feel like I got fucked over with the pay. You think I should keep looking or just settle?
Insane like a fox, or just insane?
Antiwork fam, please be my barometer. I want to open a private club here in town. Membership is $10, but not open to all applicants. Hemp is $1,000 per gram but members receive a 99.995% discount. Doctors and law enforcement are welcome to make purchases at full price but are not considered for membership. The end goal being to get busted and have at least 5 pounds seized, triggering a $2.5M lawsuit (me suing the county). Insane like a fox, or just insane? Why or why not?

How many times have you been laid off?
Just curious about how many times everyone has been laid off from a “necessary to get by” job in their life? I think this is relevant as to why so many of us are so angry and start subreddits like antiwork! I'm currently 37 years old and been laid off 4 times. The dark cloud of uncertainty that the worst CAN and HAS struck at any second has filled me with the worst anxiety that consumes me 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. It doesn't matter how well things are going, I always have to assume the worst because my whole living depends on it! It's something I'm worried I'll never get over and its why I'll always support groups like this!
At the facility I work at there is a company that makes their employees, the janitorial staff download an app that tracks them at all hours of the day and night. If they enter a certain radius of the facility, it automatically clocks them in and if they leave it clocks them out. What surprised me was everyone downloaded this app. I would have refused it if my company implemented something like this. It has caused problems when people leave to get food on breaks. Has anyone heard of this system before?
