I work in a “construction” business in CA. More administrative than anything. Taking care of customers, giving tickets, etc. I'm the only person that consistently takes care of customer transactions. I work 10h a day. 6:30 to 4:30. But I can't leave or take a lunch. There is nobody to cover me. I'm literally the only person in the office. So I have to take my lunch in office, eat and help customers. All the while I have to clock out and in for lunch. I'm 'paid' for it, but just 30m worth, not an hours worth as supposed to be in CA. I've been told I'm supposed to take 2 lunches, but I'm unsure.
If I were to leave to take lunch, nobody would be in office. Not a single person. I'd most likely get fired. I'm in desperate need of job but don't know what to do. I'm tired of working 10 hours a day and not able to take a 10 or 15 minute break or lunch or even eat sometimes. The job is good, people are good. But I don't know if I can keep this going. It's just the fact that they think it's okay, despite me saying that I am not so comfortable with it. Any advice?
