A few days ago I get an email on my work computer from my manager. It's sent to everyone in the office and it's asking for a donation to buy the CEO a birthday present.
I am the only person at this company who makes minimum wage. It's because they hired me through a programme designed to help disabled people, so they only have to pay me minimum.
I ignored the email. I assumed with my manager knowing how much I earn while living in a big city I didn't need to dignify her email with an answer.
Her response was to approach me at my desk and ask me how much I was intending to donate to the guy who pays me as little as he legally can specifically because of my disability.
My co-workers heard me telling her I wouldn't be buying the CEO who has never spoken a word to me since I started here a birthday present out of the minimum wage I get that barely covers rent, and I'm getting frosty treatment since this.
Break room turns silent when I walk in, manager is up my arsehole about minor shit all day. I have 3 months left to stick this shitty contract out and I can move on to a job that actually pays me. But fuck man, I despise office culture.
