Today I had my first performance review after a year with a corporate medical company. I was super excited for a solid raise since I knew my performance and feedback have been excellent. My past 3 quarters of employment were met with a 5/5 patient satisfactory survey score. I am payed hourly PLUS a $50 commission for each patient that I see. I average about 8-10 patients per week as I can travel pretty far any given day.
Boss: “Sooooo, in order to make things more fair for our telehealth staff (who only earn $20 per patient seen) we’re removing the commission fees entirely!”
Me… thinking fair would mean RAISING the commission fee for the telehealth staff instead of ditching it for EVERYONE entirely
Boss: But! To accommodate this change, we are giving you a raise of an extra $7 per hour!
I literally did the math. I will be making $200-$300 less per week by them removing the commission fee. I literally just took a pay cut disguised as a “raise” during the highest period of inflation I’ve ever experienced. Did I mention I have to use my own car and pay for all of my own gas as well? I’m at a complete loss right now. What would you do?
