Kinda what the title says.
I work for [Censor] [Censor] [Law Enforcement] as a clerk.
I know, it's shit and they're shit but they pay and have benefits.
A few weeks ago we had an ice storm that made the streets pretty bad, but due to being an “essential worker” calling in meant being unable to use sick/comp time.
So I went in, got maybe 3 miles from my home when my car hit ice and slid into the curb at a weird angle. This hit messed up my wheel, my tire, and also (apparently Two pieces of hardware behind the wheel(the ball joint and the bottom support strut).
Limped my car home, called in from lack of transportation for the next two days.
Companies should not require ANYONE to be out in unsafe conditions without covering the vehicle and more importantly the person in it. If you bust a wheel going into work then it should be their responsibility to at least help!? I'm coming in to work for you, my hours for you, and I am unpaid for the drive I have to do to get there.
I'm not asking for a company vehicle or anything, just some type of compensation for using and risking mine every time.
