I recently started a new job. I am supposed to get paid on the 5th and 20th of every month. Well, on the 20th, I was supposed to receive my first paycheck and I was met with nothing but problems.
For context, I live in Oregon, my new job is HELL BENT on having us do direct deposit. (This job is also a liquor store that sells over $150,000 worth of product A WEEK.) That was no big deal for me, because I’d rather have my money early anyway.
My pay date rolls around, and I get nothing. I’m talking to my manager (who is only employed because he’s the owners, sons, best friend) and he did absolutely nothing to resolve it. He ended up writing me a hand written check. Of which, he proceeded to absolutely fuck up. He wrote the amount where my name was supposed to go, crossed it out and wrote my name on top of it, without initialing his mistake. No bank will accept that shit.
So I ask my other manager, “Will this be a problem on the 5th? My rent is due that day and I will not be late because of this establishment.” She replied to me, “I’d give your landlord a heads up, incase this happens again.”
WHAT?! You sell over $150,000 worth of product a week, but you can’t pay me on time or figure out your own payroll?!
I’ve been looking for another job, but I’m at a loss of what to do. I am not the only one having issues, as the new girl who got hired a week before me, is as well. I absolutely cannot afford to not get paid on the 5th. What do I do? Is there anything I can do in advanced to catch this in time?
