First off I want to say that I completely understand people not wanting to have jobs in today's society and that, whether you want to believe it or not, it's entirely the employers fault.
That being said, I think the worker shortage is starting to seriously affect us all negatively, including those refusing to work.
I keep hearing things about food shortages due to supply chain issues and trucker demand etc. Whatever they're choosing to blame it on. But yesterday at the grocery store, I noticed bare shelves everywhere and was extremely frustrated as I need groceries. So on a whim, and because I saw virtually no employees anywhere, out of my frustration I ventured to the warehouse area of the store. I was absolutely astonished at how much was back there, enough groceries to stock everything that was missing from the shelves. After my anger had subsided and I did half of my shopping from the back room I thought of a few scenarios in my head about what is going on.
Originally I thought maybe they're being told not to stock the shelves. But then realized that, I wasn't kicked out from the warehouse section, cause there was no one to do so. They're were just nearly no employees around. We're being told that there are supply chain shortages, but every morning on my drive to work there are more truckers on the road than I saw two years ago and I'm constantly seeing things delivered to business. So I don't think that's true. I think they're just attempting to hide the fact that no one is working, while telling us unemployment is at an all time low. (Which is clearly false).
I got curious and asked my brother in law, a bank manager, about the current state of the change shortage. He told me that there is plenty of change, more is turned in every day, but because no one is working, due to branch owners and managers offering less compensation than pre pandemic. They can't get any of is sorted to be sent out on the trucks.
My bottom line thought is that yes, the supply chain of everything is being heavily disrupted, but it's not a supply problem, or a port problem, which is still a problem. It's a, lack of workers to stock the supplies, problem. I know that no one here may care that much. But for my own sake to prove to myself that I'm not crazy. Later today when I go to Walmart I'm probably going to walk in the back of their warehouse section as well to see what it looks like.
