I used to work for a large company listed on a stock exchange down under. After a restructure my new manager was a real piece of work. Long story short I found a new role and left (yay). Having been there for a number of years I have some long standing relationships and have kept in touch with these contacts over the past year. I spoke with one this week who said she’d had a performance review with this same manager and it was car crash awful. Literally not a good word said, all items that could have been done better, differently etc. on hearing this I became pretty angry and vocal. I was beaten down when I resigned and have finally got some fire back in my belly. Having experienced this managers “style” and reading the writing on the wall, my response was pretty much “fuck them”. Get a notebook, write down everything said and then throw the book at them (maybe quite literally?) to make it clear the way that this national manager “leads the team” is not acceptable, appropriate, or even half decent. It’s beyond disgraceful that this happens within a market leading company.
Question: for anyone reading this who is based or familiar with large southern continents famous for meat pies and beer, what advice do you have for my friend?
