Phone interviews are prejudiced

I would like to bring this discussion I saw in Recruiting Hell (no this is not a violation of the last rule about subreddits, which I read). I have heard stories of really good candidates getting axed because of phone interviews. For me phone interviews, especially from third-party recruiters, are really prejudiced. Phone interviews make it hard for people with social challenges to get themselves across. The hiring end will dismiss them as “insecure” or “incapable” just because they were legit socially anxious. That is even if they had a good resume to begin with. On the other end, very confident candidates with tons of experience know how to present themselves well, but the hiring end senses “dissension” in their tone and then, ghosted. This is my situation. I have been 7 years in the field and of course I am more straightforward and confident. I know the shit. I often pick up nonverbal cues from recruiters or hiring managers expressing “this bitch is trouble”.

All I am saying is, phone interviews, or interviews in general, cloud judgment. There might be a need for them in some fields, but for a remote HIM role or a statistician job, do you really need “personality”? I feel like a lot of good candidates get removed because a judgment is made over that interaction instead of the actual capabilities of the person. And don't forget hiring managers who get it wrong in the interview and you correct them in the call. Ghosted.
