So a popular cheap pizza place that has 3 dots on its logo tried pulling this on me.
This happened about 5/6 years ago. When I was hired I was VERY clear I wouldn’t work past 9PM Sun-Thurs and couldn’t be there before 5PM M-F no more than 20/25 hours a week. I had a decent job and this was to make extra cash for the holidays to buy my kids presents.
Well for several months everything was fine, the managers knew I had a good job and this was just extra cash for me so they never pulled any of the bullshit they would pull with the other drivers (“x” called off you have to stay to cover their shift, if not you’re gone type).
They tried a couple times to slowly increase hours, put me later etc, and I just said “No… I’m not doing that fix it” and they did. Minor things they did but nothing major.
Enter owner I just met him for the first time after about 6 months (I was making decent tips so that’s why I stayed on longer). It’s a Thursday night and we were busy for whatever reason. I get an order and look at the time it’s 8:40, I yell over to manager “Hey this is last order I’m taking for the night so when I get back be ready to count me out”.
I hear owner say something, but couldn’t make it out it just sounded like mumbling as I was walking out the door. I make the delivery and come back it’s 9:05-9:10 at this point, I go open my box and pull everything out and am sorting my cash. When I get “The feeling”
The feeling like someone is right behind me staring, so I turn around and there is the owner.
O: “And what do you think you’re doing?”
Me: “I’m counting out and going home, I’m only here until 9”
O: “NO YOU ARE NOT, WE ARE BUSY AND YOU ARE GOING TO STAY UNTIL CLOSE AND HELP CLEAN AFTER LIKE EVERYONE ELSE WE ARE SHORT HANDED AND YOU NEED TO DO YOUR PART”
(Keep in mind doing this was generally until 1-2 AM)
M: “Ok, but I can’t…”
O: “YES YOU CAN, AND WILL STAY”
-Looks at managers shaking their heads and waiting for what they know is going to happen-
Me: “Ok… then….” (sees smug smile come across owners face)
O: “THATS WHAT I THOUGHT! Now take this order and go”
Me: “You didn’t let me finish…. Ok then I quit, you can fuck right off with that attitude, I’m not some teen/college student that depends on this job, I have a real job this one just gives me cash to piss away on comics or whatever I want.”

O: “You can’t…”
Me: “Yes I can and I did now either count me out or I’m just pocketing all cash and leaving”
2 days later manager calls begging me to come back, I declined telling him it’s not him but I refuse to work for that owner.
