Pre-employment assessments are garbage

I recently was let go during a mass layoff at my company. Very unexpected and my third layoff in three years. I'm SO sick of this and frustrated. I'm in content marketing and have been applying like crazy. One tech company was interested in me and contacted me the same day I submitted my resume and writing samples. I talked with HR the next day and the hiring manager even said she was impressed and wanted to meet with me. But first I had to complete something called the Guardian assessment to see if I'd be a good culture fit. Apparently I “failed” that because they said despite me having all the qualifications that I didn't fit their culture all based on a test. They never provided any feedback about my results or let me counter with anything. Just a big waste of time. Is it really smart to discriminate…

Is it really smart to discriminate against qualified candidates because we don't fit inside the small personality box they want us to occupy? Isn't the best part about the workforce, especially in a creative industry, the ability to have people with varied backgrounds and personalities so there isn't groupthink?
