Pushed out of my side job yesterday. They were so disrespectful that I quit.
It’s only been a couple months of me serving. I am a single parent and told them straight up my child was my priority during my interview.
They gave me nothing but positive feedback, covered other peoples shifts (including non serving shifts that didn’t pay as much) to help the restaurant.
Their reasoning was that they were short staffed and couldn’t have someone that has a kid that’s more important than the restaurant. That I had “too much going on”. In 3 months- one occurrence of needing coverage for my kids birthday party that his parent invited me too / I can’t NOT go stop by. The other me thinking my custody might change since my kid told me a story of him being abused in the other parents care and me not knowing if CPS would take the case- they did not and I informed management promptly- 2 weeks before my shift -2 days after I informed them I told them that they did not take the case that my custody was normal and management said they had it covered.
Management made someone else remove me from the coverage group chat and wouldn’t take my calls. Another server had to ask me to talk to her since something weird was going on and I wasn’t on the schedule.
She gave me the run around- for me to come back when I feel better. I told them I felt fine- asked them how they could possibly know how I feel- that I was being transparent with them during those circumstances to help the restaurant. They used them to push me out. Makes me sick what kind of people there are.
The worst part is I thought I had a work family. It felt like one up until this phone call.
So they mentioned the other managers too… so I went in yesterday during their busiest time and I dropped off beautiful trays of cookies with a note to all the staff and all the kitchen staff for thanking them for having my back when I did work there and that it was nice working in a place where people helped each other out- I excluded the managers names out of both cards.
I said goodbye to everyone respectfully.
Walked back to the kitchen and held out my hand to the kitchen manager and shook his hand and said I’m sorry it had to end like this- looked him straight in the eye. Then said actually I’m not sorry – not one little bit- it’s unfortunate that it had to end this way- good luck!
Other manager was behind the bar- I asked if she had a minute to talk she told me to wait 10 – so in the middle of the bar – I said his will only take a second, I held out my hand- she said what are you doing- I said shaking your hand I like to look people in the eye and talk to them like a real adult when I leave a job- it’s unfortunate it had to end this way good luck. Threw up two peace signs and left the building!
I have heard wind that people are thinking it was a pretty bad ass move. I’m pretty proud of myself. Fuck shitty managers! They can literally make or break a place!
