Q: as a parent, have you ever had to bring your child (children) to a job interview with you?
In 2011, I graduated with my BS in CIS. That was a bad summer to grad with that degree. I had a 3-year-old. I job hunted forever, and on a Friday, I had an 11:00 am interview at a small IT company. Babysitter canceled. Rather than cancel the interview, I brought my 3-year-old to the interview with me. He was well behaved, played with his Thomas the Tank Engine trains. I thought I interviewed fairly well. But, I did not get the job. At least that company gave me a letter-of-rejection and even praised me in the letter. But, ultimately I was not a “fit” for their entry level position because I had “too much” experience, as I was an adult student and graduated when I was over 25’s from the BS degree program. At that point, I had already been working since I was 14 years old, so 10+ years of work history.
I’m thinking back on that. And I wonder if that happens to many of you or not?
How does that affect the way you see this community of “anti-work” and why you joined here?
Sometimes, a person just needs to be able to take care of his/her kid and can’t necessarily work. Not, that the person does not want to work, just that circumstances are not as expected.
