I know quiet quitting really just means acting your wage but I’ve been doing less than the bare minimum (only takes about 2hrs out of the 8 I’m paid for) for months and no one’s noticed.
For context I’ve had this job for about a year, and my boss has hated me from the get go. When I started I was super enthusiastic, working long hours, and going above and beyond in every way. Even then he would yell at me for the tiniest things and I never got a single ounce of praise or a single thank you. It was soul sucking.
The past 3-4 months I’ve been doing less and less. At first it was just moving to doing only my job and not extra work, but at this point I’m barely even doing my job. I just can’t bring myself to care.
I do the very bare minimum and make sure my slack stays active all day but other than that I spend the majority of my working day reading, writing, doing chores, and honestly just relaxing. No one has noticed. My boss still yells at me but no more than he was before. I have to stay by my computer in case I get calls but other than that I do whatever I want.
It feels like I’m trying to get fired and I keep thinking I’m going to but no one’s called me out on it.
Should I just quit? I’m shocked how long I’ve been able to keep this up. The more I get away with it the less I respect the job and company- how can they not notice? I’m paid pretty well.
Has anyone done anything similar? How long did it take your employer to notice?
