Quit a job last year because it felt sketchy and off. Trust your gut folks. Honestly not sure how to proceed especially since I have an unemployment appeal claim for THIS job next month.

Just had an interesting text exchange. Me: Hey [Owner]! This is Decan. I worked for you briefly last year and I was wondering if you would need me to come to the restaurant for my W2 if it was easier for you? Hope you're well! Thanks! Owner: I mailed them already. I'll check on re-printing one for you when I get in there Owner: Decan you don't have a W-2 from me since you work for so short I didn't bother To put you on the books I just paid you straight up Couple of things to add: – I was never told I was being paid “off the books” – He told me verbally that he needed some time to write me a check because he needed to take out taxes – I filled out all qualifying paperwork (I-9 and w4) I'm guessing I just file my taxes without…

Owner: I mailed them already. I'll check on re-printing one for you when I get in there

Owner: Decan you don't have a W-2 from me since you work for so short I didn't bother To put you on the books I just paid you straight up

Couple of things to add:
– I was never told I was being paid “off the books”
– He told me verbally that he needed some time to write me a check because he needed to take out taxes
– I filled out all qualifying paperwork (I-9 and w4)

I'm guessing I just file my taxes without it? Was the last W2 I needed. And I'll have to call unemployment and see what they recommend about the appeal.

My luck. I knew something was off about that place and that's why I left.
