I’m full-time employed and sell some things here and there on the side. The government wanting their cut for any additional income above $600 is laughably greedy.
I’ve encountered this before; years back, a buddy hooked me up with DJing at a bar for a couple weekends a month. I made a little over $600 and had to pay back more than a third in taxes. I bought the gear, learned how to use it, made the deal, and showed up and put in the work, all on my own, and those greedy fucks are entitled to a third of that?!
Now, it’s going to happen again with this sale. Between what I paid for the gear and what I’m selling it for, the tax is going to cut in to any profit on my end. I will have lost money to NOT have the thing. Let’s keep track on how many times the government got paid in this series of events: 1. When my employer paid me, income tax got taken out of my paycheck. 2. I paid sales tax when I bought the thing. 3. I will pay tax on the profit from selling it. 4. The buyer also pays sales tax from his state.
No wonder these greedy pig fuckers are doing everything they can to ensure the continuance of this bullshit capitalistic system, they get paid every time money changes hands without having to do jack shit for it. Now, if we lived in an actual social democracy, I wouldn’t mind the taxes as much because it would be going towards universal healthcare and education and infrastructure and women would have bodily autonomy and the police would be regulated and accountable but in the US? Taxes are theft.
I’m all for all the labor strikes and whatnot we read about every day here, but I’m also in favor of a tax strike. None of us should give our government another cent until they reign in military spending and start taxing the rich the way they tax people who have the audacity to make an extra $600 on the side.
