There are “non-profit” sites, I’m not sure if mentioning names would get me in trouble but one that starts with “C” and the other with “V” that “supposed non-profit” organizations post “volunteer opportunities” or “unpaid internships” whichever it might be, which post “opportunities” that ARE supposed to be paid jobs.
They ask for a long list of strict prerequisites and requirements to WORK FOR FREE!
I just applied for one of these “volunteering positions” as a Digital Marketing Ads | SEO Manager just out of curiosity to see their response, and the audacity of the program director asking me for 3 tests about analytics, charts, & writing sample, 3 professional references and expert experience to WORK FOR FREE!. When I replied to her request saying: “I’m giving you free labor that will benefit YOU, why should I jump through hoops to get a free labor position that you will benefit from? The director got defensive right away.
This sh~t should be illegal! These should be PAID JOBS that individuals and families could’ve built careers from – to work and feed themselves and their families.
Our job market sucks as it is, and this type of abuse makes it even worse to survive with a dignified job that can feed us and our families.
Rant over.
