[Rant] Went above and beyond and this is what I was met with. How do I politely say I will no longer be doing manager duties for free and no longer wish to hold or work up to said position.

I have been with this company for about a year and honestly I really enjoyed it. I worked my ass off and moved up to the manager role pretty quick, or so I thought. My boss has been taking advantage and gaslighting the shit out of me and I finally asked myself, “why the fuck am I putting time and energy into this when I get treated as shit” Here’s an example. We had a sit down a few weeks ago because I wanted my evaluation, which was suppose to be done the beginning of the year. It was stated that I am in fact not a manager because I’m unreliable for getting Covid back in December and being out for the month till I tested negative. Here’s an example.

We had a sit down a few weeks ago because I wanted my evaluation, which was suppose to be done the beginning of the year. It was stated that I am in fact not a manager because I’m unreliable for getting Covid back in December and being out for the month till I tested negative. (Was right before they changed it to the 5 day rule) As well as being out for 6 weeks from the beginning of March because my appendix ruptured. Yet I am always staying over or going in early to help, working/doing tasks off the clock, as well as a ton of paperwork/personal tasks/organization. (That is specifically a managers job).

So fast forward to a few days ago. My boss was going on vacation and asked if I could help and work at both locations. So I offered to Open 7am-3pm at the one store and then 3:30-Close at the other location. Morning went great and was in a pretty good mood till I got to the other store. Not 10 min into my second shift that day the entire register/POS system dies. I work in a sub shop so only adults can slice the meats and cheese. So it was me (supposed manager) and two minors for the entire shift. The two kids are high off a dab pen they have been hitting and it’s now created a cluster fuck.

I was expected to make a “makeshift” register of cash on the back line. Take orders, do the math with a calculator for each persons order, slice their food, put their toppings on, ring them out and repeat. As well as calling and being called by tech support. My husband also works with me and he came in to help that night. Told my other coworker to tell my boss to clock me out when he got there so I can put the new register together OFF THE CLOCK. this was the thanks and the response I got. Please tell me if I should of done something different or if you understand the point I was trying to get across. Because my boss instead attacked me for losing her so much money…

Here are a few other shitty things:
-Sliced my thumb 7 months ago and my insurance had to pay for the urgent care visit? Not to mention I couldn’t work for a bit as well and wasn’t offered any kind of payment help. Also adding when it happened I went right back to work and ran register and other shit not 10 min after getting stitches.

-Found out the boss has been lying about finding a manager. They are adding more and more tasks and duties to my plate without a manager wage all so they can have the “salary and bonuses” for their family. They own the store as a franchisee.

-I informed my boss that if they keep pushing a limited, undertrained and overworked staff people will leave and proceeded to send screen shots of said text to my other coworker saying I was fucking crazy and making shit up. That’s what I got for giving a heads up because I wanted to be nice and not have them blindsided if people were to walk out.

-I typed and provided structure for the store because staff were taking advantage and making their own schedules. A text would be sent out asking for availability and staff would fill that out. Well that started causing problems so I made set availability forms, schedule change forms, shift swap and time corrections. It’s working beautifully but they got the credit and bonus..

Let me also ask, if an employer in Ohio has you working two locations under them but it’s two paychecks and we don’t get overtime because it’s split between two stores. In Ohio here, is that legal?

TL;DR: thought I was a manager and working my ass off. Only to find out I’m not because I’m unreliable for getting sick during a pandemic and my appendix rupturing. I was going above and beyond and they fucked me over. So I’m no longer doing the manager stuff or helping. Doing my job, clocking in on time doing everything by the book and leaving on time without going in early or staying late. Boss isn’t giving overtime for hours work totaled at both their stores. Done burned this bridge. Gonna be a rude awakening when they are back from vacation and I stop going out of my way bending over backwards doing their job in and off the clock without compensation.
