So while back I posted about how I was leaving my job, I didn’t end up leaving for another few months because I got a raise and promotion. It wasn’t worth it now that I look back because I was still miserable. The manager I had turned out to be two faced( no surprise there…)
He constantly lied to employees trying keeping their hopes up and lied about the restaurant owner’s and corporate earnings. We got into an argument about me going around one day and asking people what they made, called me unprofessional and unethical while he kept discouraging people from talking about their wages and lied to me about how I made “people uncomfortable “ when everyone who i asked didn’t give a fuck about telling me.
He kept trying to push to others trying to manipulate them into thinking that they were uncomfortable but most came to me and told me that they didn’t care that I asked.
I told him it was unprofessional and unethical that he discouraged it and also illegal to get people in trouble if they do so. Also told him that it was illegal and unethical to change peoples hours and that they can get reported to the department of labor, he got quiet.
He lied about the owners earnings when I asked him why can’t he invest his own money into the restaurant which is falling apart, he told me he didn’t have enough money to do so ( dude owns 5 restaurants). He can afford a house in a different state and renting an apartment near the restaurant to “keep an eye on us”. The manager has been with the company for over 11 years and has been getting shit on by them and he takes it. He brags about it too. He treats staff like children but expects professionalism like he doesn’t get himself involved in the madness. He always talk about we need to start treating the job like a career but when I confronted him about pay and hiring more staff he takes back his words and states that this is a job for high schoolers not a career. Either way I told him that didn’t matter and that the staff needs to get paid better or no no one will stay or perform the way he wants people to do so. People in our area are not going to apply which is why literally all the staff but two people live 30 mins away from the restaurant. The restaurant is in a very high end place, so the people around are rich and will not work here, and the kids that do have jobs and live in this area get “easy jobs”. The target next to us starts out at 15 an hour, we get started at 10 an hour for dishwasher and busboy (if they feel like it because usually it’s $8-$9 an hour). Tell me why someone would rather get paid shit in a fast pase environment, that’s right they won’t. (I’m not saying retail isn’t hard but you can see why no one wants to apply).
And since my departure, more and more people have left, and someone has created more trouble with themselves but shitting where they eat, risking their life at home (if that makes sense I don’t want to cause any more “drama” if they find my throwaway)
Now I left a couple weeks ago, and I made the best decision ever, everyone as far as I know is paid fairly, no one has complained about money and are not involving themselves in useless toxic drama. I believe this because they all can afford to live and those who do live close the restaurant can afford it considering they live in an area where rent is 1600+
