Really Getting Sick of It

I'm getting real sick of these posts popping up lately calling for full-scale revolution and screaming about how no one on this sub is doing anything. These posts that blatantly call for bloodshed and rioting in the streets. Posts where the poster screams out “nobody is organizing anything, why isn't anyone doing anything?!” and they aren't doing anything themselves. Or trying to discredit Unions and calling them “a temporary fix”. Reform takes time. And I get it, everyone wants things to be fixed right now, but last change takes a while to bring about. And the posters always go on these long rants about how reform won't change anything and we need to have a violent revolution as if they're some kind of anime villain or the main character in a science fiction novel. Going straight for the dystopian riots and gathering up everyone they think is their enemy just…

Going straight for the dystopian riots and gathering up everyone they think is their enemy just to execute them in the streets is not going to help anyone. It will actively make things worse for everybody in the long run. People will stand against extremism and condemn any violent uprising.

And then there are the posts of people screaming into the void about why we aren't organizing and having massive strikes or protests. Well, why is the poster not doing something about it? It's very easy to whine and bitch about the state of things, but they are never willing to do the work themselves. If they want something organized, they need to take the initiative and start it themselves. Offering a solution and then expecting someone else to do the work for them is the epitome of laziness (the irony, I know). It takes a huge amount of time, work, and resources to organize people, especially for such large-scale protests as we generally call for on this sub. People have lives to live, families to feed, jobs to work. They cannot just drop everything and drive hundreds of miles to stand in protest for multiple weeks. Call it selfish but people need to look out for themselves and their loved ones first and foremost. And until we make things better for those people, we cannot expect them to stand with us.

Workers have been making massive strides with unionization lately. They have shown incredible strength and courage by not bowing down to the corporate overlords and fighting for fair treatment and wages. And it has gotten many of these corporations running scared, trying to convince everyone that unions are bad and to vote against them. And union busting has been getting reported on more lately and driven more people to become allies of unionizers. Now, I get the idea of wanting to change things so that unions will not be necessary anymore, but many of these posts calling them “bandages” or “temporary fixes” have a tone of discrediting the unions in general and give the impression that we should not be unionizing at all because it is a waste of time. And that is a massive disservice to the people who have worked so hard to enact change in the workforce.

Look, I get it, I want things to change as well. I want everything to be fixed and everyone to be happy, I want people to no longer live in poverty or be forced to live paycheck to paycheck. I want everyone to be able to pursue their passions, to be able to take the time to just lie in the grass and watch the clouds drift by without the constant fear of losing everything looming over their heads. I want the rich taxed, I want the wealth shared, I want universal healthcare and universal basic income, I want humanity to be happy and produce on their own terms. But violent revolution will not make that happen.
