Just started a new job at a big grocery chain in my area, and the “Manager”, isn't the manager. He's the guy who does the manager duties, but doesn't have the title or the pay. I feel bad for him, he's so loyal to a company that doesn't care about him. He's been here for 8 years, and for 6 of them, doing the managers job. You might ask, “Where's the actual manager?” He's often in the back doing, “paperwork,” or, “Talking to corporate.” It's sad man. I could never commit so much time and energy to a company just to have myself be used. This place offers 401k's, and insurance and it's unionized, and he has all the benefits. I asked him why he hasn't tried to move up the ladder, you're basically the manager right now, all he says was, “This place has better things in store for me.”
Now I can understand being homeless and a company picking you up off the street, but he wasn't. He grew up in white suburbia.
Just had to rant for a minute when I'm on break. Y'all stay safe out there. Fuck corporate America
