Recruited for “Remote Role”, but contract is not remote

I was recently recruited for a remote role, went through many long interviews, was offered the job and accepted. When they sent me the contract, it stated my place of work is an office in a city two hours from where I live. I thought it was a mistake at first, but they told me it's a standard contract and it won't change. I am not going to sign, of course. Was mine a peculiar case or is this common practice now? Did it happen to any of you?
