Recruiter emails me that they’re interviewing and hiring THIS WEEK! (with the exclamation point)

I'm a senior-level product owner/manager type. When I'm looking for new positions, I rely on really good recruiters who are knowledgeable, can identify the right talent for a role, and can advise me as I go through the application process. I'm old (50). I like where I'm at, but I'm always interested in seeing what's out there. I always make that clear. I got an email from a recruiter stating, “I just had a candidate decline an offer due to personal reasons so the hiring manager is very motivated to interview and hire someone THIS WEEK!” And I'm rolling my eyes. Here's why: I don't care that you had a candidate turn down an offer for personal reasons. Deciding the job isn't for them is “personal reasons”. Deciding the client is cheaper than cheap, or that it's a toxic environment, is a “personal reason”. Now, maybe this is the greatest…

I got an email from a recruiter stating, “I just had a candidate decline an offer due to personal reasons so the hiring manager is very motivated to interview and hire someone THIS WEEK!”

And I'm rolling my eyes. Here's why:

  1. I don't care that you had a candidate turn down an offer for personal reasons. Deciding the job isn't for them is “personal reasons”. Deciding the client is cheaper than cheap, or that it's a toxic environment, is a “personal reason”. Now, maybe this is the greatest job ever, and maybe the previous candidate just had a really serious personal situation that kept them from taking the job, but I'm more inclined to believe that the candidate got an offer and declined.
  2. The whole “we're hiring THIS WEEK!” nonsense. Ugh. Even if I was out of work, this would turn me off. If they're so desperate that they'll hire the first guy that they can find, then I don't want the job. It's not even that I value myself as better than just a warm body to fill a spot. It's that I know the value of what I do. A bad product guy can set an organization back and cost them money. If they're more concerned with chair-filling, then I really don't want to work there.

Am I being too hard on the recruiter? I'm not going to apply, but I feel like this is just complete BS.
