Recruiters are bad at their jobs these days.

I’ve been unemployed for a few weeks now and am having a hell of a time dealing with core incompetence from recruiters. Most recently, sent my résumé to a firm that asked for very specific skill sets for a posted salary range of $70k-$80k. Very specifically I have been doing that work for 14 years. However, the company I worked for was sold to a multi-national and I was down-sized about 3 years ago. I’ve been milling about doing various things to pay the bills since then, but really keeping my eyes open for this niche field opportunity. When I came across it, my heart leapt! Yes!
Yes! Exactly what I loved doing, was very good at, and wanted to continue doing. Of course I sent my résumé w/cover letter. And a day later a follow-up message in which I expressed my desire to have a discourse on why my retention would be a good idea for the company.
The recruiter responded that she didn’t see any of the required skill sets on my résumé and she’s sorry, but will be looking elsewhere.

It was the second entry on my résumé. First being most recent, and admittedly, unrelated job. But the very next entry, AND, in the “Skills and Qualifications” section, speaks at length and in great detail, ALL of the required experience and quite a bit more.
Couldn’t be bothered to read beyond the first entry, and dismissed outright my application.

Of course, being a bit frustrated with the overall runaround I’ve been receiving in this job search, I decided to respond to her rejection.

“Thank you for your response to my inquiry. It appears that your company hires people not qualified for their job in other areas, so I’m glad you are going a different direction. I feel like your position could certainly benefit from someone willing to read past a headline and first entry before passing judgement. Your company should be informed about your lack of competence, however, I lack the time or motivation to do so. Good luck to you in keeping your job beyond this recruitment. All the best.
