Regional dispatching manager retaliated against employees who didn’t answer their phones on their days off by calling in “welfare checks” on them and having police respond to their house.

Obligatory burner account notice. What the title says, anon and posting on behalf of a friend because they would probably be fired from this place if this manager found out. The regional dispatching agency called the cops for a “welfare check” on their employees because this agency is so short staffed that if someone calls in sick, they don't have enough people to cover every agency and frequency that they have a contract to provide a service for. So for the dispatchers who are on their days off, this means that their manager harasses them constantly to come in and work shifts. My friend had almost ten texts and three missed calls in one day from this manager harassing them to come in and work on their day off. Some of them are working 60 plus hours a week and if they don't want to be worked into the ground they have to legitimately get a doctor's note stating that they cannot work more than 40 hours a week.

Last weekend the manager took it to a new level by calling in a welfare check on an employee who was not responding to calls or texts that morning on their day off. This employee is on a graveyard schedule and was asleep, that was why they didn't answer. Police responded to this employees house to “make sure they were okay” and were probably completely unaware of the nature of the call as the manager could have just lied and given any bullshit reason which I'm pretty sure is illegal. This is in Washington state and seems like a violation of worker's rights. Who we gonna call?
