We want so little and yet we are being told no.
All I ever wanted was my own home. Ideally a house with a garden like my parents but I could settle for an apartment.
Because of a few years of remote work I was finally able to buy my own home. Nothing special but my OWN.
And now the assholes are forcing us back to shitty office buildings which are always located in crazy expensive areas. Now I have the choice of killing myself with 1 hour commute each way (2 hours per day if there are no issues plus getting ready and preparing for work = a minimum of 3 hours added to each work day). Or I could move closer to the office and pay the majority of my pay check to some greedy asshole landlord while also becoming a landlord myself by renting out my own apartment to someone even less fortunate than myself.
All we want is a goddamn stable home and not to be rent slaves. Renting is stressful, you are not allowed to make it your home, the rent can increase at any moment and you can be forced out. That’s not a decent life. Having your own home you have fixed expenses and you can redecorate as you please so that you feel comfortable.
Most of us want so very little yet apparently it’s too much. We don’t want yachts and gold and private jets. We just want our basic needs fulfilled: a home and food and a bit of savings for a rainy day.
Many of us were able to finally get what we always dreamed of because of remote work, many of us escaped the overcrowded cities which also resulted in rents decreasing for those that had to stay in the cities.
And at no cost to the employers. In fact the majority of studies show that productivity went up, employees were happier, more engaged, used less sick days and even innovated more.
And now the greatest benefit for office workers of our generation is slipping away from us. Many are giving up without a fight. We were so close.
