So I work in IT. It's perfectly suitable work for working remote, as you might imagine. I started during covid so initially didn't know any better anyway.
Even during covid rules, enforced by the actual company itself, my specific superior decided to work around the rules by not gathering at the office, but definitely expecting us to show up. It was ridiculous and didn't even really work at all, since the places weren't meant to host (all of) us.
As soon as company allowed it, we were expected to come in fulltime. I hated it. Especially as we were often expected to stay late and it takes me 5 hours to get back and forth, so I often didn't come home until late in the evening with maybe half an hour to an hour before heading back to bed.
Then I got a different superior. I'd hoped we'd be allowed to work from home again. We weren't. Every time I ask I just get some b*llsh*t answer that it's handier to work together which is b*llsh*t because the office doesn't have the material most of us work with at home, with the exception of some very apart desks. So even if we're all there, we often talk through teams so we can still work properly with the materials.
They've been lying to us for months now about getting a new space with the material present on every desk. Literally, it's been months. Still no dice.
But now I'm even more miffed. It was annoying enough to see such a part of my salary going up on travel and expensive lunches (we're not allowed to bring any because we're both not allowed to eat at the canteen with brought lunch and we're not allowed to eat at the desks). Then last week, I couldn't come Monday and Tuesday because I was feeling hella sick. Didn't call in. Simply said I wouldn't come to the office. Wednesday I did go, despite still heaving a major headache. After being there for 2+ hours, my superior asks me what my excuse was for not coming into the office again that day and that I could've at least told him. Just to demonstrate how useful being at the same office actually is.
Then happened today. I came into the office. Nobody from my team showed up. I mean genuinely nobody. This was not the first time. It was the third time. I'm f*cking sick of it. I've been here all week, is it really that difficult to ensure the whole team is up to date we're not expected?!
