i got a job at starbucks, but I have a bit of a problem with all the fast food places I've worked at:
I'm bored as hell.
I'm 17 so im not in the position where I NEED a job, but my family is kind of poor and I don't really like eating the same thing every single night so I got it so I could door dash, upgrade my pc, and blow my money on steam sales (and save for a car… maybe…)
This is my 3rd job. kinda lied and said it was my second but had to increase my chances and didn't want to seem like a job hopper.
would of asked for help on r/ advice but the baseness level is non existent and I kind of figured they would of just told me to simply do my job and deal with it
I'm wondering, people who have fast food jobs, how do you get away with maybe doing tasks like reading/playing video games/drawing/ or whatever while you're on your job?
I have genuinely worked hard at my past two jobs, for no reason admittedly but I don't deal with stress or authoritarian guilt trips well so i just went along with it. However whenever we were not busy and all stocked up I would go to the back to read/do homework/play video games/etc.
Even from a business perspective I figured this wouldn't have been a big deal sense in all those instances there was quite literally NOTHING to do. Not even the excessive cleaning sometimes.
On top of this, the managers themselves, AND OTHER NORMAL SHIFT WORKERS, would constantly go on their phones when there was no customers, and somehow I was tasked with toilet cleaning, fry and nugget, station, sweeping and mopping, EVERY SINGLE DAY.
All because I would occasionally go on something bigger than an apple device literally when there was nothing to do.
Is there anyway I could get away with doing this at my new job or maybe convey to the manager why such a policy is kind of stupid without getting fired or being perceived as lazy in front of other coworkers who I actually want to have a good relationship with? Is there anything you all do to possibly circumvent that at your jobs?
