Saw some incredibly bothersome terminology

So lately I’ve seen some people return-to-office celebrating being back with others. I also saw someone say they’re waiting for more people to return and “get their act together” and come in. It’s cool that some people are enjoying being back, and I’m happy they’re happy. At the same time, it’s not wrong to enjoy or prefer remote work. Just because people don’t return-to-office doesn’t mean they don’t have ‘their act together’. What does that even mean? I find this view really insensitive and saddening. There’s so many reasons and benefits for working at home…it saves money, time, etc. It’s also saving me a lot of energy dealing with a disability. I am so grateful to be able to do remote work, I love the balance. I feel sad that this view point I saw is not being considerate of the many people and life circumstances that prefer WFH. Just…

I feel sad that this view point I saw is not being considerate of the many people and life circumstances that prefer WFH. Just because someone prefers or chooses to WFH doesn’t make them inadequate or flawed. I’m sorry my preference doesn’t perfectly cater to their ideal social working scenario, but I hope we can all respect each other for our choices and appreciate people for the capacity they can show up even if it’s just virtually.

Thank you for listening to my rant. I almost posted this on an alt (hope I don’t get in trouble for this), but I thought I can take a moment to use this comment I saw to make a psa for others who might feel the same.

P.S. I respect those who miss the office and seeing colleagues, I acknowledge the benefits and the collaboration that exists in-person. I get it does take a certain number of resources to be able to go to work in-person, and maybe subsequently a person has more of ‘their shit together’ if they can do that. Sometimes I feel like being at home helps me keep my shit together truly. All-in-all we can have our preferences while not shitting or being inconsiderate of others. We can appreciate people for their differences and preferences and not shame them for it. That is all.
