(Tldr at the end)
Hi, so this happened a while back when I worked a minimal wage job (in Germany so it was about 10€/h) at a gas station…
We regularly had scammer call us to get the phone number of my boss, they always used different “urgent” stuff, like some gas company having to replace something the next morning and they really urgently had to talk to my boss. I was almost always working alone there, even if my boss was present he was in the small office or car workshop. I knew not to give out that number and in the beginning they just hung up when they realized I would not tell them. (Fyi: with that number they could hack and then call and it would show my bosses number/name on the display to earn trust and get coupon codes and stuff).
But after a while a new scammer guy called and when he realized I wouldnt give out the number he literally threw the most abusive insults at me and hung up. And ngl I'm sensitive, I can't just immediately move on. It really hit me sometimes but I still had to work and couldn't take a break (as I was alone aka full responsibility on me). That sucked so much and I don't know how many times I just used a one min toilette break for a quick cry. Wtf.
So yeah my point is.. wtf did I have to endure for minimum wage? My boss never took any action and when I brought it up to a coworker they said it happened to them too and to just ignore it and not give out the number or coupon codes. Yeah great.
I don't even want to start on how much was part of that job when I only worked 10h/week and managed the whole store, food and cigarette deliveries, the rent out vans and so on. Like how was that a min wage job lol
Also just wanna mention I don't need legal advice, it's over for me I mostly wanted to rant about how normalized it seems to be.
Tl;dr : I regularly got scam calls at work that verbally insulted me (&my coworkers) and my boss didn't really care… and all that for minimum wage.
