Remove this if it’s wrong to post here or help refer me to another subreddit please. I got a problem that might sound silly but what’s going on is I just got hired at a new retail job( won’t say which company just to remain anonymous). What’s happening is that when I first got hired, I made sure to tell the person interviewing me that there were two dates I was not able to work on, one of those days was the 28 of this month. I saw her write it down on her paper and I do remember there being another person with me that she was interviewing (however I don’t know if this person was paying attention to what she wrote down and if she got hired). I remember her telling me confirming that those dates should be fine to not work on and when I came in a couple of days later, she confirmed that I should be fine to not go in for that day and that she let the other manager know.
However, when I came in on my second day to work, I noticed I was on the schedule to work the 28th and so I asked my store manager who was responsible for making the schedules and she claimed that no one notified her and that I would need to ask another employee to change shifts if I wanted to get that day off. To me this was surprising because why should I ask another employee to take a shift when the other manager said I was off for that day. So what I am asking is what do I do in this situation? I was thinking of calling the store and asking for the supervisor who interviewed me just to confirm what I heard and also confirm I was indeed to be off that day. Then secondly once I get that confirmation and in the case the store manager still does not give me that day off, I was thinking of sending in a report on her, the question is do I send it to the companies HR? Or to the Illinois department of labor or is that overkill?
Thanks again for reading, it’s my first time about being confrontational and backing myself up in a workspace. Advice is appreciated.
