My old high school principal reached out to me to ask if I would substitute teach for the French teacher. She said “we pay 90 dollars a day!” as if it was something to brag about. She also mentioned how much they've been struggling to find subs. I just finished my first year of university, and I already have an internship that advances my career/skills and that pays nearly double this. The high school recently just added an entirely unnecessary new section to the building that includes a top-of-the-line workout room and a third gigantic gymnasium (for a school with ~1,400 students???) as well as a turf football field. I've heard from old friends that a ton of teachers just retired/quit. I always heard rumors that the teachers weren't being paid enough and that the principal was hell to work with and borderline abusive. Now they're reaching out to students who graduated a year ago. I wonder why they can't find people to spend 7 am to 3pm with high schoolers for $11.25/hr. It must be because of that lazy younger generation!
