Working in retail, especially on the phone requires you to be micromanaged and controlled by QA scripting and it makes you feel subhuman. Like when people comment that someone is very pushy or talkative on the phone with them, they almost never realized that call enter reps are basically forced to say every last word in that script or else. It's not real, it's not natural conversation. We just literally are compelled to make empathy statements in order to sell you a product. And if we don't sell it to you, we get punished for not meeting a quota. And then your managers manipulate you and gaslight you into believing you are the problem if you start to react negatively to being shoved in a cage. You're watched and listened to every second and everything you say is assigned a metric for control and perfection and tone and word choice.
I feel defeated. I'm starting to believe that I am the problem and that I actually am worthless because I can't perfectly follow a script. There's no real or natural conversation anymore. It's just metrics, and quotas, and I legitimately want to die every time I think of the manipulative shit they make us say to people to get them to feel unsettled, threatened, or trapped into buying a service or a product. This is fucking awful. Every aspect of sales is predatory and morally bankrupt, and corporate leadership just tries to spin it like it makes any goddamned sense when it doesn't.
