I have the opportunity to make a difference for my local hospital, where I have previous work experience. I received the email below from a family friend that works for my local HCA (for-profit) Hospital, and I am able to directly contact them through text. I want to encourage them to offer this as a paid position, but I am not sure how to express that without ruining the relationship my family has with them. I am sharing this here in hopes that some of you have notes on how to be as persuasive as possible.
My first draft is:
“Hello X, I just received the email that you had sent around regarding the volunteer position for the desk at the Baby Suites. Working at a hospital in any capacity is a direct health risk, and I don't feel that it is appropriate to offer this position without some form of compensation. If I understand this correctly, the remodeling of the Baby Suites was a multi-million dollar project but HCA does not have the funds to compensate its employees? I am not sure if this decision was yours or somebody else's, but regardless I hope that you will reconsider. I have seen firsthand that help is desperately needed at that desk, and I believe you will get the applicants you desire if the position were to offer compensation.”
TL;DR: I want to advocate for change and have the chance to do so, but need help with wording.
