I have been a k-12 teacher in the private school industry for 10 years. I love teaching and feel it is my calling. But we get paid shit despite the enormous endowment at our school. And this won't get any better. Not to mention workplace culture and exploitation of workers is rampant. Hence why I want to leave. Although I should mention I have also applied to other schools in the area that seem better places to work in general.
A friend of mine referred me to a job they have in recruiting. It offers commission but has a base salary close to my current job.
I clearly have never worked for the money but given the state of the economy and the clear indication that we are headed in the opposite direction of anti-work/anti-capitalism…I feel like I have no choice but to take this job if offered to me. I would likely make 6 figures in the first two years or thats what my friend is currently making and many of her colleagues.
Am I a sell out? Perhaps I misunderstand the purpose of this sub. It just seems like everyone on here is complaining about American workplace culture and exploitation of workers. I feel like I would be exploiting someone if I did take this job and therefore goes against all principles of anti-work and anti-capitalism.
Any thoughts are welcome and if this post is not appropriate for this sub I will delete it.
