So long story short I just left my job for a better one.
And my old boss is saying I owe him a few thousand dollars within 48 hours. Will I get sued if I don't pay him in 48 hours? Should I pay him at all? I can't really offord it and I just wish he handled it better that trying to screw me last minute.
He's under that ussumption because around a half a year back or so I was having banking issues for a couple months while changing banks so he was writing me my paychecks instead of direct deposit. Now he only needed to write my check like 2 or 3 times. But the last time he hadn't given me my money in a couple days.
So I assumed he was busy and tried getting in touch with him at the end of the day.
I walked up to him and told him my direct deposit still didn't go threw. So he Said “you need money?” I said “my rent was due a couple of days ago so my paycheck would be nice” something along those lines.
So he walks me to his wife's office(family company) and tells her to write me a check for a few thousand dollars. Like 2 to 3k more than my normal paycheck. And asks me if that's enough and I told him “yeah thats more than enough”
I don't know why he insisted on paying me so much. But he did. And I held onto the extra month after paying my bills assuming it would just come out of my direct deposits next time I get paid. And it didn't so when we got our bonus checks some months later I tried giving it back to him and asked if I still owed him and he was very vague and said we would deal with it later. And more months go by. To the point where I find a better job. So I just forgot about it.
And now he's asking me to pay it back. I never signed anything about it being a loan or anything. It was all word of mouth.
