Set today aside for interviews

I wanted to share with you guys about the day I’m having as a job seeker. I currently have a job in IT project management and am looking for a new job that will pay me appropriately. I start getting requests for interviews and decide to set them all up for today. They include 3 Teams interviews and 1 automated – talk to the camera interview. 11:00 First interview of the day, I have my suit on, drank two cups of coffee, and have looked up the interviewers background on LinkedIn to casually mention something about their background to show I did my homework. I log into the Teams meeting and wait. 11:22 After sending emails to the interviewer she calls me and apologizes for oversleeping.

As we talk I discover the high paying contract role I applied for doesn’t actually exist (has been filled). The interviewer explains her recruiting firm is a non-profit who gives priority to folks with disabilities and hints that I should get a Dr’s note about Depression or Anxiety so they can market me as a diversity hire…. WTF

11:35 After getting off the phone I shake my head and decide to tackle the automated interview for a high paying role at a local hospital I have always wanted to work for. I log in to their system and the automated interview is going to be one where I fill out the questionnaire then they robo call me and I record answers to their questions. I enter my info in the questionnaire which is really me re-entering all the information I already entered when I originally applied. At the end of the questionnaire, before the robocall the system informs me that I don’t meet the criteria for an interview…. After I have already been invited to do this stupid robo interview shit.

I decide to take a break and eat lunch.

1:00 This interview is for a PM/ Agile Leader role. I join on Teams and sit there staring at myself on webcam.

1:05 I email the interviewer and ask if I used the right link.

1:06 I call the interviewer after seeing their mobile number listed in their email signature, rings twice then voicemail. I then text them and ask about the interview. I check my email again to see I got an auto-reply from the interviewer saying they are out of office on vacation until next Monday.

1:30 I decide to tell r/antiwork about my day. There’s no fucking labor shortage. There’s a massive systemic problem with companies that are unable to retain talent because they don’t want to pay correctly. There’s also a hiring problem where 9/10 recruiters are unprofessional, rude idiots who can’t even show up to the fucking interviews they setup with candidates. Can you think of an easier job than recruiting? Where all you get paid to do is to stand in the way of people who want to work the jobs you post?

Oh, while I was typing I got a phone call from a third party recruiter for a $100/hr contract role at Sony that I’m so totally sure isn’t a fucking scam and really exists.
