Sharing my salary

So I was in a professional program for a health care job that very few people realize exists the techs in the lab and to get certified through the ASCP you have to do rotations. Coming off of COVID so many people had left the lab because it became miserable to work there which good for them and good for me. Going into rotations many of us were scheduling job interviews and I don’t think anyone did not receive multiple offers due to the labor shortage. When working on a the bench during rotations the techs working with would always ask if we had a job lined up. They all said that we were in a good position because they pretty much had to take what they could get.

We then get an email about a meeting we had to have with our professors not even a month into rotations. We thought there had been violations either gross incompetence or someone causing an FDA reportable. No it was because on of the supervisors heard a student tell on of the bench techs how much they were getting offered and their sign on bonus when asked and they thought it was “inappropriate” for the work place. My professor disagreed but we needs to do rotations to be able to take our boards so while it was stupid just go along with it so we can get our degrees.

Funny thing is the lab we were doing rotations in had a serious labor shortage and guess who kept on trying to talk up the students to apply for jobs at the lab. Those same fucking supervisors and they thought it was crazy that hardly anyone from our program applied for those jobs and hardly anyone accepted them because of the poor compensation. We also knew they were understaffed and overworked and didn’t want that. Other techs would still ask where we were working and a lot of us would tell them we were negotiating our salaries they were proud of us and encouraged us to not take our first offer.
