Shorted on my raise and many more problems I didn’t realize before leaving

First off, this was a job I was at about 10 years ago. I was hired on with an industrial flooring company, and told that I would start at $15/hr and be raised to $21 after getting my CDL to help haul our equipment to jobs. I had my CDL in just under 45 days of hiring and the next check showed I was only making $16 and hour. I asked about it and was told that the higher pay rate was when the shop was union. I mentioned how the shop of 13 voted the union out 7 to 6 after you the owner promised raises to $25 an hour to everybody, and that this was all over a year before I applied for the job and was told $21 after getting my CDL, so when I hired on, and when they told me to get my…

I mentioned how the shop of 13 voted the union out 7 to 6 after you the owner promised raises to $25 an hour to everybody, and that this was all over a year before I applied for the job and was told $21 after getting my CDL, so when I hired on, and when they told me to get my CDL, because you know $21/hr, was bull shit.

I stayed for over a year after that, only because one of my buddies I grew up with was the super and wanted me working with him, and he did help get the owner to pony up $18 / hr for me, but after that year I knew if I stayed, because of the nature of the floor work, I was headed for knee replacements by the time I was 45, at 28 I could already feel it, my knees ached constantly.

oh and they wanted me to fudge the driver log books, would not out rite say it, but just that I can do what I need to to make it to where we need to go. and if I pulled over for a motel because working 90 hours in 6 days, yes we put in 14-20 hr days working with epoxy on 100k square foot sections of factory floors, I was too tired to make it back to the shop on a 10 hour drive with the semi, I was punished and not called out to work for the next month.

I left them, and I left them short on a job the next day to go to a new job, a UNION job, best decision ever. And after 6 months gone from that shit job, my knees hadn't felt so good in years.

on top of all that, I am positive I was exposed to asbestos dozens of times pulling up old floor tile and carpet glued down with mastic, we had one job at a car dealer who had their employees complain of the dust and called the health department, sure enough, asbestos in both the floor tile and mastic gluing it down, that was one of the jobs I was being punished and not called too.
