I work for a small business and our office is in what looks more like a house from the outside, and it is nice. In the office we have 3-10 people max at any given time. My job is admin only, the job description did not include any cleaning. We have a maintenance man who comes on the weekends and he basically just takes the trash out and occasionally throws some toilet cleaner in the bowl. No one vacuums and I really don’t want to know how nasty this carpet is. The owner of the building is my employer’s partner and he isn’t exactly great with things. For example, the air ducts have never been cleaned in my 2 and a half years here and my coworker sneezes like crazy. I caught the HVAC guy (who was fixing our thermostat for the 85th time) and asked if he could look. He confirmed they are filled with dust and dirty. Dust accumulates quickly and where my coworker and I work, there are high walls and we can’t reach without a ladder.
My boss has mentioned we can dust, vacuum, clean the bathrooms…I feel like we shouldn’t be expected to do that. However I understand we are a small business and she truly has such little time to hire cleaners or manage that (she doesn’t delegate either). She is not a cheap or malicious employer, though her partner doesn’t give a shit about us half the time. I guess it isn’t a huge deal, but what do you think?
