Should I file a wage claim to my state’s labor board?

I was hired as an exempt employee 6 months ago for a company but my state has a minimum salary that must be paid for someone to be considered exempt. The company I was working for paid me about 7k less a year than what the minimum to be exempt is. I didn't say anything when I got hired because I really needed the job. Well, I got a new job recently that exceeds that minimum. Should I file a wage claim against my former employer? I never really worked overtime – on occasion I did – but for me it's more about the principle. They broke a state labor law. They need to obey those laws.
