Should I find a lawyer or give my employer an opportunity to make things right first?

Should I sue my employer for unpaid wages? I am an hourly employee. As part of the closing duties, we’re required to lock the entrance gate and then drive the nightly deposit to the bank. All while off the clock. This usually takes 10-15 minutes every night. I filed a claim with the department of labor, they told me what my company is doing is illegal and I have a valid claim, but they were too busy with too many other cases. This is a company with hundreds of stores, so I know I’m not the only person experiencing this. I also work upwards of 50 hours a week, so the unpaid time would technically be considered overtime. Any assistance is appreciated.
