Should I leave because of wage compression?

My employer has been pretty forward about the fact that I only get raises to equal the current hiring wage of new workers. My workplace peers who have been employed there as long as I have all make more money than I do. Is this a good reason to leave, or should I find a higher-paying job and use it to leverage for a better wage at this job?
