To get straight to it here,
I started a new job 2 months ago at a dispensary as a budtender. Formally I have over 2 years experience in the industry and know I’m good at what I do. In less than 60 days, customers were requesting me as their budtender and multiple customers stated they returned to the establishment because of my excellent and knowledgeable service. I have done a lot to improve the place since I’ve been there, used my photoshop skills to fix our menus that looked like trash, fixed a number of inventory issues that were non compliant with multiple regulations, etc etc.
On Saturday, before Memorial Day weekend, my boss, the owner, decides to send me home 2 hours before the end of my shift due to me being 3-5 minutes late on a few occasions. I won’t lie here, I am “late” alot if you consider within 5 minutes of the shift starting being late which I do not honestly. I think a 5 minute grace period is more than reasonable especially since I stay late past my shift end at least 10 minutes sometimes up to 30 minutes most days. The other reason I was sent home was for not answering the store phone’s texts (from the owner) while on my lunch. Even though I had a coworker on shift with me that also did not answer the phone and got no consequences. She also threatened to cut my hours if I continue to be “late” (this is my full time job so cutting my hours would put me in financial strain)
I’ve felt targeted from day one by the owner, she has reprimanded me for things that either were fabricated or things that my coworkers do frequently. idk if it’s because the owner is threatened that I’m a qualified person who recognizes the bullshit all around this place? She also just hired someone with 0 relevant experience to the job, meaning no cannabis experience and no customer service experience, at the same hourly rate as me. She’s been confrontational and down right mean , even calling me disgusting at one point for touching my hair.
I’m scheduled to go in tomorrow, but I’m pretty sure my mind is made up that I’m not going back. I may be unemployed for a couple weeks-a month but I think it’s worth it to spare my mental health.
Mostly just ranting but could use some encouragement. What do you beautiful people think? How do you feel about 5 minute grace periods for tardiness? Do I give this another chance or call it?
