I have been working in this company as a trainee for 2 months already. The pay is higher than past companies and there’s two types of environment where I work in. As a newbie, I already felt very left out but lately that has been less of an issue as I decided my work life is gonna be separated from my social life. Anyways, one of the employee(not really the boss) but works in a higher position amongst us acts really sassy and bossy. Sometimes she would speak sarcastically which really icked me as communication is very important to this industry. But I thought to myself, as long as she’s not doing any harm with me then it should be okay.
Before starting on this company, they’ve talked to me about the possibility of overtimes since it could be a busy environment and it’s currently lacking in staff. (Which I’ve agreed to and have done lots of overtime ever since this conversation) However last week, I was scheduled to finish at 6pm and knowing that schedule, I have volunteered to pick my 10 year old sister up from her martial art class which would be at 7pm and the time for the distance from my work to there would be about 45 minutes.
Fast forward and it was already 6pm. I asked this higher employee if I could leave and she said in a hard tone, “No, finish your task first and then you can go.” I thought 15 minutes won’t be too bad so I proceeded on finishing the task despite of the time HOWEVER the task kept on piling up and it wasn’t ending.
I quickly peeked on the phone and it was 45 minutes already and I knew that was it. I spoke to her and told her “I’m sorry but I really have to go now because my sister is waiting for me” and she went off by saying “Next time you have to finish your task, you know that we do overtimes here and couldn’t you spare 30 more minutes of work?”
Mind you, I started at 2pm and SHE made that roster for me and she straight up told me “You know you’ve only work for two hours today”
I love my work, I love this job but I had been switching between companies for the past years because my coworkers attitude had always been a deal breaker as it affects me mentally and emotionally and it makes work so hard for me.
Should I stay here or quit?
