2 months ago I got hired on with hopes after some certifications I’d be in a management position. Pay would later be negotiable. For now, I was told to work as a tech and knock workout until I have certs. Two weeks in and there is no direct management over me or for my department. This is clear to me a new company that has no clue how to run my department. I was told that I am basically my own boss and that I needed to figure out the workload. I brought to the attention of my boss that the schedules were too demanding to figure out for one person. They then bring in a very fresh employee who was supposed to help me. He knew nothing and I began training him. This put me 2 weeks behind on a project and a slew of emails from clients came in demanding for another project. I realized that we sold off jobs that we couldn’t chew. Deadlines coming across the same week for turn in. While training another person. I let my employer know how detrimental these timelines are and how we should be more selective on the jobs we sale as to not ruin our reputation as a company. This led to a meeting with the operations team. In this meeting I got told I ruined the managers week by firing off emails like I did. That it was not my duty or job to say what they can or can not sell and to never include the head owner. I told the operation team that the deadlines seemed too reactive rather than proactive. That we should be looking at hiring more employees to handle deadlines and workloads. This made them livid. They began to tell me that I am treating them like they are stupid and that I am too arragont. Then proceeded to tell me they have given me everything I’ve asked for to be successful (a new computer + a new hire), and that I came across as a spoiled brat. I guess part of this is due to being self sufficient with everything I am using, except the computer, is mine. All software and certs I own and got myself. After everyone cooled down and I started to say “I understand” and nod my head and smile. The head of operations told me I pretty much have free reign over the department and can make it grow, but he won’t be hiring nor will I be in a position to vet who they hire. However, for all other purposes I am running my own company and get the work done as I see fit. (Outsourcing when I need to). That this would be great experience for me to learn how to run a department for when I become a manager.
That being said, I am going in tomorrow and telling them that the pay does not match the workload. I am unsure if I want to negotiate higher pay and take their outsource work; Or quit on the spot and never look back. I have it in my head I am quitting and telling them I have my own company to start, since I have to do it here anyways.
***Edit: apologies for not being clear. Anxiety is a bit high. I have everything I need now to start my own business. Should I tell them to outsource their work to me and pay me to consult, or just quit on the spot.
