I am hesitant to post this on this subreddit specifically since it is literally called antiwork. However, I feel like most folks here are aware of the exploitation in the workplace and could potentially give a more educated answer. My only request is to try and be subjective.
I'm a civil engineer in Turkey. I graduated 1.5 years ago and have had one work experience where I quit after 2 months because they paid less than discussed. I am now working at another company. I get minimum wage and there doesn't seem to be a raise on the horizon. I do enjoy the work environment and my colleagues, and time offs/health leaves, etc are at least flexible. My only issue is the low pay and that it's paid like 1-2 months late consistently.
I also do some freelance writing job on the side online. I really enjoy this and feel more passionate about this as opposed to engineering. It's earning me about the same as my engineering job rn due to the conversion of USD to Turkish Lira. I could earn more through this venue if I quit and focus full time on writing.
I'm not an amazing engineer, my CGPA is ok at best but I graduated from one of the best colleges in Turkey. I feel like my education alone should be worth way more than minimum wage but then again, the sector itself is bleeding too in Turkey.
I'm very conflicted and would welcome any opinions and advice. Appreciate it!
